FOJCF | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- 13 November 2009 - Swiss-Swedish engineering group ABB Ltd (VTX: ABBN,
STO: ABB) said today it will cooperate with Finnish energy company
Fortum Oyj (HEL: FUM1V) to design and install a large-scale smart grid
in a new district in Stockholm.

ABB and Fortum will develop various solutions to ensure that excess
power produced from renewable energy sources in the new district,
called Stockholm Royal Seaport, can be fed into the grid. The solutions
will also enable electric vehicles to use electricity from the grid or
feed it back in.

The research and development (R&D) project is part of the efforts to
reduce Stockholm's carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by two-thirds by 2020
and to make the new district free from fossil fuels by 2030.

The project is supported by the Clinton Climate Initiative programme
for sustainable urban growth.

The Stockholm Royal Seaport district will comprise 10,000 homes and
30,000 offices. It will also have an innovation centre to showcase the
technologies being tested and deployed there.
