AEG | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- AEGON NV on Thursday named Mark Mullin, the president of AEGON Americas, as that unit's new chief executive officer.
Mullin, 47, will succeed Patrick Baird, who will retire Jan. 1.
Mullin, appointed president of AEGON Americas in January, also was named to the AEGON Management Board.
Mullin, who moved to Cedar Rapids in 2007, began his career with AEGON in 1987. Since then, he has held various positions with AEGON in the United States and in Europe.
In 2002, Mullin was appointed president and CEO of Diversified Investment Advisors.
He became head of AEGON's annuity and mutual fund businesses in 2006.
Baird, 55, began his career at AEGON USA in 1976.
He has been executive vice president and chief operating officer, chief financial officer and director of tax before being appointed president and CEO of AEGON USA in March 2002.
Baird was appointed to the Management Board in 2007. He also led the Dutch insurer's efforts to expand its business in Canada and Mexico.
Baird recently finished a term as chairman of the American Council of Life Insurers.
He will continue to represent AEGON next year as a member of the organization's executive committee.
After retiring as CEO, Baird will be a board member of AEGON's joint venture in Japan. He also will work on public service projects in several different venues.
AEGON employs about 14,500 people Mark in the Americas.
