DJ Anglo American Appoints Former Barrick Vice Chairman To Board

CENX | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Anglo American PLC (AAL.LN) Monday said it appointed former Barrick Gold Ltd. (ABX) Vice Chairman Jack Thompson to its board of directors, the miner's second board addition in two weeks.

Thompson was Barrick's vice chairman from 2001 to 2005 and currently sits on the boards of Centerra Gold Inc. (CG.T), Century Aluminum Co. (CENX) and Tidewater Inc. (TDW).

Anglo last week appointed Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (RBS) Chairman Philip Hampton to its board of directors as it looks to "refresh" non-executive leadership. Just days later, Tshamano "Fred" Phaswana said he would leave Anglo's board to focus on his new role as chairman at Standard Bank Group Ltd. (SBK.JO).

Anglo also faces other non-executive vacancies: board member Karel van Miert passed away in June, and Rob Margetts and Chris Fay are scheduled to retire from Anglo's board at the company's next annual general meeting in April 2010.
