SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST:

- The family of Chief Secretary Henry Tang Ying-yen plans to
privatise and sell its majority-held technology company
Meadville Holdings to Nasdaq-listed TTM Technologies.

- Chinese and American financial officials are working on a
preliminary agreement to encourage mainland lenders to buy into
small and medium-sized US banks, and are hoping to announce the
deal during US President Barack Obama's current visit to China,
according to mainland bankers who have been briefed about the
matter.

- Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska, who controls UC Rusal,
the world's largest aluminium company, said a Hong Kong
director would be appointed to the board of Rusal ahead of its
initial public offering in the city, which is expected next
month.

- Half of the 65 per cent rise in the cost of the planned
high-speed rail line to Guangzhou is due to the many design
improvements, and the other half is because of unexpectedly
high inflation, transport officials told lawmakers yesterday.

- Foreign direct investment on the mainland climbed last
month for a third consecutive month, compared with a year
earlier, suggesting the appetite for investing in the world's
third-largest economy is picking up as the market recovers.

- Shanghai-listed Haitong Securities is buying NWS Holdings
(SEHK: 0659)' stake in Taifook Securities Group for US$454
million, according to sources familiar with the deal.

THE STANDARD:

- Investor passion for public offerings continued unabated
yesterday, as four listing candidates froze more than HK$75
billion, while CPMC Holdings (0906) gained 13.4 percent in its
trading debut.

- Templeton Asset Management has invested HK$78 million in
convertible notes issued by Capital Strategic Investment
(0497), drawn by its business model and management capability

- Food maker Tingyi (Cayman Islands) Holdings (0322) turned
in a record quarterly profit as its third-quarter earnings
surged more than 60 percent on better production efficiency and
lower raw material costs.

- China WindPower Group (0182) plans to build between eight
and 10 wind farms annually in the coming years as the nation
expands the use of the cleaner form of power.

- Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings (1038) and affiliate
Hongkong Electric Holdings (0006) have agreed to spend HK$1
billion to increase their stakes in a British gas distributor
because of the favorable operating environment.

- Meadville Holdings (3313) has agreed to sell its printed
circuit boards business to Nasdaq-listed TTM Technologies for
US$521.3 million (HK$4.07 billion).
