Alcatel-Lucent wins Japanese engineering firm deal

JGCCF | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Telecoms equipment company Alcatel-Lucent has won a contract from Japan-based engineering and construction company JGC Corp to help it build a fully integrated communication and security system network as a part of an oil and gas project in Algeria. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Under the contract, Alcatel-Lucent will design and integrate the new system, carry out multi-vendor equipment procurement and integration work prior to the shipment by its Shanghai facility as well as provide technical assistance on the commissioning and installation work on all sub-systems on site. The company said the communications system will transmit data on oil and gas production, operation and safety details; and enable communications among the workers patrolling remote desert sites.

Martin Jordy, head of Alcatel-Lucent's activities in Japan, said: "We have been selected by JGC for this engineering procurement construction project, where the network needs to cater for harsh environmental conditions and stringent requirements from the end-user. Being selected to support mission-critical integrated communications for JGC is a strong endorsement of our capabilities as a system integrator."

The deal follows Alcatel-Lucent's $12m contract from Bechtel, an engineering, construction, and project management company, for the deployment of a fully integrated telecommunications infrastructure to support onshore and offshore operations of Angola LNG Limited's new plant in the Republic of Angola.
