allied Pilots association of american airlines issues support for striking Finnair Pilots
AMR | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Certified collective bargaining agent for pilots of american airlines
(NYSE:AMR), The Allied Pilots Association (APA) on Monday declared a
statement of support for the 800 pilots of Finnair, represented by the
Finnish airline Pilots' association (Suomen Liikennelentajaliitto SLL).
APA President Captain Lloyd Hill commented that they support the
oneworld pilots at Finnair in their efforts to convince Finnair
management to abandon their outsourcing plans, which is a threat to
loyal workers. He added that around 200 of their jobs are at risk as a
consequence of these decisions, which are in direct violation of the
pilots' contract.
The Finnair pilots on strike since midnight Monday, are protesting the
airline management's plans to ignore the collective bargaining
agreement and shift new 70-seat aircraft to a newly formed commuter
affiliate, Finncomm airlines.
APA and Suomen Liikennelentajaliitto SLL are both members of the
Oneworld Cockpit Crew Coalition, which consists of the pilot unions of
every oneworld Alliance carrier.
