HON | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Honeywell, a US-based manufacturer of avionics and other aerospace products, has finalized a contract worth more than $1 million with Emirates to provide its newest runway safety technology, Honeywell's SmartLanding, for the majority of the airline's fleet.

Honeywell has said that the Honeywell's SmartLanding reduces the risk of runway excursions by alerting pilots if the aircraft is approaching the runway too high, too fast or is not configured properly for landing.

SmartLanding will reportedly be incorporated into more than 110 of Emirates's existing aircraft, including Boeing 777-200/300 and Airbus A330 and A340 with delivery scheduled in 2010.

Honeywell's SmartLanding is a software enhancement to Honeywell's enhanced ground proximity warning system.

Mike Madsen, vice president of airlines at Honeywell Aerospace, said: "Emirates was one of the first to implement Honeywell's runway awareness and advisory system two years ago, and they are expanding on their commitment to the safety for their passengers and crew by incorporating additional safety products such as SmartLanding."
