OXGN | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- 18 November 2009 - Stockholm-listed biopharmaceutical company Oxigene
Inc (STO: OXGN | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) announced late on Tuesday positive interim safety data
from a phase II study of its drug candidate Zybrestat in advanced
non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Zybrestat, or fosbretabulin, is undergoing a phase II, randomised,
controlled trial, named Fosbretabulin in Advanced Lung Oncology
(FALCON).

The data showed that the combination of fosbretabulin with carboplatin
and paclitaxel plus bevacizumab, or Avastin, appeared to be
well-tolerated, and that there were no significant overlapping
toxicities with bevacizumab.

"We believe that results of this study complement previous data showing
that Zybrestat is an active anti-tumour agent," Oxigene's CEO Peter
Langecker said.

The data was presented at the 2009 AACR-NCI-EORTC Molecular Targets and
Cancer Therapeutics conference, currently being held in Boston, USA.

Oxigene expects that a further analysis of the efficacy of the
combination will be presented at the 2010 annual meeting of the
American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), scheduled for 4 June 2010
to 8 June 2010 in Chicago, USA.

Zybrestat, a vascular disrupting agent, targets and collapses tumour
vasculature, thereby depriving the tumour of oxygen and causing death
of tumour cells.
