XRX | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Americans will again have the opportunity this year to say thanks to U.S. military personnel overseas by going online.

LetsSayThanks.com, an Internet-based postcard site developed and sponsored by the Xerox Corp. will again allow individuals throughout Lawrence County the opportunity to send a free postcard to servicemen and women deployed throughout the world.

In its fourth year, the popular program provides a way for individuals across the country to recognize U.S. troops through the mail. The holiday season can be a very lonely time for military men and women. Getting holiday cards from back home can be a huge morale booster.

While a specific soldier cannot be selected, each postcard allows the sender to personalize it anyway they like. Participants can even choose the type of postcard they want to send from a selection of 78 cards designed by students throughout the United States.

The postcards, depicting patriotic scenes and hometown images, were selected from a pool of entries submitted annually.

To send a card, all a sender has to do is click on their favorite design and select either the pre-written message that best expresses their sentiment or draft their own personal note. Postcards are then printed by Xerox and mailed in care packages by military support organization Give2TheTroops.

To date more than 10 million cards have been mailed.

The program is something Ironton's American Legion Post #433 has supported since it started in 2006.

"If you've been wondering from your living room sofa or easy chair how in the world can an ordinary citizen say thank you for helping our country preserve our way of life and thank you for giving of your time, this is your chance," said Post #433 Commander Jim Volgares. "I urge everyone to take advantage of this free and unique opportunity to say thank you from Ironton and wish our servicemen and women a safe tour and a safe return to their homes and loved ones."
