Gov't rules SK Telecom must allow interconnectivity on 3G network
SKM | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- South Korea's telecom regulator on Wednesday ordered the country's dominant mobile carrier SK Telecom Co. to allow interconnectivity on its third generation (3G) network.
The Korea Communications Commission ruled that SK Telecom's 3G network should interconnect with the wireline network of KT Corp., the largest fixed-line telephone operator, so that subscribers to the traditional phone service can call wireless subscribers to SK Telecom's 3G service, and vice versa.
SK Telecom and KT had formed an agreement over interconnectivity on the previous second-generation cellular network.
KT earlier made an appeal to the Commission after the two failed to reach a similar consensus over the multimedia-oriented 3G network.
