VMED | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Gemalto, a provider of digital security, announced it has secured a two-year exclusive agreement to supply Virgin Media with (U)SIM cards and its LinqUs Device Management solution.
Virgin Media is a European Mobile Virtual Network Operator with over three million customers. The Gemalto cards will allow Virgin Media's mobile customers to securely access and enjoy a wide range of value-added services, while the device management solution ensures service access to users across all handsets. The contract further extends 10 years' continued business relationship between the two parties.
The Gemalto solution facilitates access to the operator's web portal and makes new services available. LinqUs Device Management enables automatic remote configuration of mobile data applications in handsets, so that Virgin Media's mobile customers will receive the correct configuration settings to suit their mobile phone model simply by accepting the update upon handset activation.
"Gemalto has been our partner since our mobile service first launched in 1999," said Jonathan Kini, director of mobile at Virgin Media. "This extension to our agreement enables us to continue developing a wide-range of future services for our customers, utilising the ever-increasing power and the security inside the SIM card."
"We are extremely proud to be a strategic partner of Virgin Media," said Philippe Vallee, Executive Vice President of the Telecommunications Business Unit at Gemalto. "This new contract extension demonstrates the trust Virgin Media places in Gemalto as a proven and steadfast partner. We believe our device management solution will ensure successful service adoption, as Virgin Media continues to evolve its mobile service."
