Nokia announces reduction of R&D operations in Japan

said on Tuesday that it will be reducing its research and development
(R&D) activities in Japan.

This is part of Nokia's global efforts to bring its R&D operations in
line with the company's more focused portfolio of future products.
Approximately 220 employees are expected to lose their jobs in Japan,
which represents just over 1% of Nokia's R&D personnel worldwide.

The company said that the Japanese operations of Nokia Siemens Networks
and Vertu will not be unaffected by today's announcement.
Last week Nokia announced 330 R&D job losses in Finland and Denmark.
