'Orange Romania eyes fixed voice, internet market'
VOD | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Orange Romania aims to become a mass market provider of fixed voice and
internet services, according to the operator's marketing director Dorin
Odiatiu quoted by daily business paper Ziarul Financiar. A decision on
the new strategy will be taken next month when Romania's
telecommunications authority is expected to review the access tariffs
to the network of dominant fixed operator Romtelecom. Both Orange and
Vodafone have previously expressed their intentions to offer internet
and voice services through Romtelecom's lines if the regulation is
modified. Orange and Vodafone claim that the EUR 8.37 tariff demanded
by Romtelecom for allowing access to its infrastructure is too high and
does not encourage competition given that Romtelecom sells internet
services for less than EUR 5 per month. However, Romtelecom officials
stated that its tariff is one of the lowest in Europe.
