Volkswagen likely to create 8,500 jobs in Slovakia
VLKAY | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- German auto major Volkswagen is likely to create 8,500 jobs following the production launch of new small family cars at its manufacturing facility in Bratislava, Slovakia in 2011.
In April 2009, the automaker had announced its decision to manufacture a new line of small family cars at its Bratislava plant, which currently employs 7,800 people.
The $400 million investment plan will reportedly create 7,000 indirect jobs. In addition, 1,500 direct jobs are expected to be created at the Bratislava facility once the small family car production is launched in 2011.
The technology installation and construction work at the plant will reportedly create 1,800 temporary jobs. The output at the Bratislava facility is expected to increase to 400,000 units annually after the launch of production operations.
