1. The latest meeting of China State Council held Wednesday has
set a target to lower CO2 emission by 40-45 percent by 2020 than the
emission in 2005. Meanwhile, the meeting also decides to promote the
development of clean coal, renewable energies so as to boost the
consumption of non-fossil energy in the energy mix to 15 percent by
2020.
2. China is expected to realize the target of cutting energy
consumption per unit of GDP by 20 percent by 2010, said Xie Zhenhua,
vice director of National Development and Reform Commission.
According to Xie, China's energy consumption to the end of June 2009
has decreased by 13 percent compared to 2005.
3. The Sinopec Group is going to sign a deal worth 6.5 US
dollars with National Iranian Oil Refining & Distribution Company
(NIORDC) to build and upgrade refineries, Iranian media have
reported. Market-watchers believe that it is another loan-for-oil
deal in which Iran exports crude oil to China while China provides a
loan to Iran.
4. PetroChina plans to expand its natural gas production
capacity of Kai county in Chongqing municipality to 5 billion cubic
meters/year within two years. Currently, PetroChina and Chevron are
jointly developing natural gas there.
5. Sinopec International Petrochemical Company and
PetroVietnam Oil (PV Oil) have signed an agreement to cooperate in
crude oil trade, crude oil and natural gas exploration, upgrading the
Vietnam-1 refinery, and jointly building the Vietnam-2 and 3
refineries.
