Indian pharma co criticises Israeli firm over citizen petition
TEVA | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Indian drug maker NATCO
PHARMA LTD (BSE:524816) on Thursday said Israel-based TEVA
PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRIES has filed citizen petition with the
US regulator FDA in an effort to prolong its monopoly in
selling Copaxone, used in treating multiple sclerosis. "This
citizen petition is similar to another petition that Teva had
filed in 2008 which was rejected by US Food and Drug
Administration earlier this year," Natco Pharma said in a
filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange.
* "Filing of Citizen Petition is a common tactic employed by
the branded pharmaceutical companies in the US to delay generic
competition and Teva seems to have borrowed the manoeuvre from
the multinationals," Natco said.
* Natco said it would suitably respond to Teva's unfounded
claims while assuring safety and integrity of its drug
Glatiramer Acetate.
