Lundbeck advances Lu AE58054 in phase II study in Alzheimer's
HLUKF | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- 27 November 2009 - Danish pharma company H Lundbeck A/S (CPH: LUN) said
today that it started a phase II study with the candidate drug Lu
AE58054 as add-on to donepezil in patients with moderate Alzheimer's
disease.
The compound belongs to the class of 5-HT6 receptor antagonists. The
5-HT6 receptor is primarily found in areas of the brain that are
involved in cognition.
The phase II trial is a multi-centre, placebo-controlled, fixed-dose
study aimed to investigate if the candidate drug, after 24-week
treatment, improves cognition and functional outcomes in patients,
already treated with donepezil, which is the active ingredient in key
Alzheimer's disease drug Aricept. The study is expected to enrol 270
patients.
