RP Kayaking Series 2009 presents Explore Cebu Bohol Crossing

The series hopes to start more sports events and touring activities that will promote the country as a kayaking destination here and abroad as projected by the Department of Tourism (DOT.

Red Bull, known internationally for promoting non-traditional and extreme individual sports, joined the presentation of Kayak Explore Cebu Bohol Crossing as its first venture into the arena of extreme individual adventure sports, according to Maryland Distributors, Inc. president Gino Baltao.

The leg will be launched with the Lapu Lapu Eco Kayaking Games and Forum on December 3 under the Fernan Bridge, Millenium Park hosted by the city's Tourism Commission and Sports Events Bureau and Pusok Barangay Council.

Participants coming from different coastal barangays of Cebu and Mactan islands intend to set up new kayaking tours.

Flagoff for the 125-kilometer kayak marathon starts at Tambuli Beach in Maribago, Mactan island on December 4.

It covers 70 kms with the major crossing of Cebu and Bohol; passing through the islands of Olango and Pandanon, going inside the Cambuhat River in Buenavista for a seafood lunch amid oyster farms.

Kayakers and ecotourists converge at the port of Tubigon where dinner and cultural presentation will be hosted by the Tubigon municipality.

With the marathoners leaving early on the second day of the 29-km leg, the touring flotilla and residents join in a kayaking clinic and the second of the five km novice races.

Island hopping and sandflats in between Tubigon-Calape-Maribojoc will provide kayaking, swimming and snorkeling activities until the group reaches the historic Punta Cruz watchtower.

After the marathoners leave for their final destination in Panglao, a kayak clinic and five-km novice race will be held in Cortes and a river tour highlighting cultural and historic sights and cruising to Panglao island.

The group converge in Bohol Beach Club where the awarding with a sumptous dinner and a party cap the 2009 series.

Major sponsors are Cord, Cebu Pacific, Bugsay kayaks, Montanara Sports Gear, Mojo Sandals and Slippers, Habagat Outdoor Equipment, David's Salon, Union Jack, Jump Off Point and Waterfront Airport Hotel shared their resources together with other prize donors like Conquest Sports Equipment, Dunkin Donuts, Islands Souvenirs, Headware, Casa Francis Rey, Image Marketing, One Tagaytay Place, Le Bistro and Bohol Limestone Corporation.
