Valley View's Tomczyk named All-Region Girls Soccer Player of Year
ZZVWL | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Coming off a district title as a freshman, Valley View's Taryn Tomczyk was hoping that it wasn't just beginner's luck.
As fate would have it, the sophomore built upon a highly successful first year, leading the team to division and district titles.
For her efforts, Tomczyk has been named the Times-Tribune Girls Soccer Player of the Year.
Tomczyk scored a team-leading 14 goals and added six assists as Valley View posted a 16-2 record, winning the Lackawanna Soccer League Southern Division title in a playoff before capturing the District 2 Class AA title.
"I wasn't expecting all of this success," Tomczyk said. "We started off slow and were able to pick it up toward the end."
Always seemingly standing in the way was Western Wayne, the team the Cougars defeated in a playoff for the division title before being taken to a shootout before capturing the district title.
"When we won the district final in a shootout, that was very special," Tomczyk said. "We weren't expecting to win at districts, but we were up and ready for it."
As for Tomczyk's season, she feels there are better days ahead.
"I felt that I had a pretty good year," Tomczyk said. "But, I always feel that I can do better. Making the state playoffs was fun, but, hopefully, we'll be able to take that next step next year."
