Stallions set for Sunday's franchise opener
ABKBE | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The Bluegrass Stallions tip off their initial season in the American Basketball Association on Sunday when they play host to Nashville's Music City Stars.
The Stallions split a pair of exhibitions last weekend at Beaumont, Texas, but Sunday's contest is the first that will count in the standings.
Tip-off at the new indoor arena at the Kentucky Horse Park is set for 3 p.m.
Coached by former University of Kentucky and NBA guard Kyle Macy, the Stallions' roster includes four players out of UK: Ravi Moss, Lukasz Obrzut, Bobby Perry and Wayne Turner. Jaron Brown (Pittsburgh), Darnell Dials (Eastern Kentucky), Justin Taylor (Georgetown/Tenn. Tech) and Aubrey White (Georgetown) all played high school ball in Lexington. Others on the roster, nearly all with local ties, are Luke Fitzgerald (Cumberlands), William Harris (Mountain State/Pikeville), Antonio Murrell (Indiana Wesleyan), Marcus Thompson (Seton Hill) and Akeem Scott (Campbellsville/Kentucky Christian).
Home teams are allowed a celebrity "13th man" on the bench. Getting the call Sunday is Jared Lorenzen, the former UK, New York Giants and Kentucky Horsemen quarterback. Lorenzen knows his way around the court, too. During his high school days, he helped Highlands reach the Sweet Sixteen.
