Apple to Open Stores in China for iPhone

BEIJING, Nov 27, 2007 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- AAPL | charts | news | PowerRating -- US-based Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL and LSE: ACP), one of the computer technology pacesetters around the world, plans to open new stores in China for its much-coveted iPhone, instead of selecting an exclusive distributor.

Apple is to launch iPhone in Asia in 2008, disclosed people close to the company on November 25, 2007.

Previously, the company intended to cooperate with China Unicom, China's second largest mobile telecoms carrier, but the talks quitted due to the divarication on the sharing proportion of the proceeds. In addition, the US company was rumored to appoint Shenzhen Aisidi Industrial Co., Ltd., one of the largest distributors in the country for mobile telecommunications products, as its distributor for iPhone products.

Apple markets its iPhone in Europe and the US via the exclusive distributors and the mobile operators all over the world. Its exclusive distributor is O2 in the UK, T-Mobile in Germany, and AT&T Inc. in the US.
