Amazon.com launches Askville.com question and answer site

Nov 30, 2007 (INTERNET BUSINESS NEWS via COMTEX) -- AMZN | charts | news | PowerRating -- A website where users ask and answer questions and discover answers to thousands of questions has been launched at http://www.Askville.com by online retailer Amazon.com (Nasdaq:AMZN).

Amazon said Askville.com users who share their knowledge by answering questions will receive Quest Gold, which will be redeemable for USD50 or USD100 Amazon.com Gift Cards for a limited time, while supplies last.

Askville.com, which had originally been open to a select number of users following its beta launch in December 2006, is now available to all Amazon customers around the world. Amazon confirmed that users who are not Amazon customers but have a cell phone in the US or Canada, will still be able to access the new site by using their handset to authenticate themselves.

According to Amazon, Askville.com users who ask or answer questions earn Quest Gold, the quantity of which is dependent on how well they answer questions and what level of expertise they reach in a particular topic.

Askville.com also intends to introduce another website, Questville.com, which will allow users to use their Quest Gold for activities and an opportunity to gain further rewards.
