DLP technology has now doubled the brightness of previous LED models and reached levels that exceed that of the competing full HD plasma.
The brightness advancements can be expected in future product lines from leading DLP HDTV manufacturers and a prototype can be experienced in the DLP products booth at CES.
The latest DLP HDTV LED enhancements also feature a 240Hz display mode which is a 100 percent increase in motion reproduction and exceeds comparable plasma and LCD HDTVs, making DLP technology the best for fast action sports and movies.
DLP technology puts the best and brightest picture on the TV screen regardless of the light source used to illuminate it, said Adam Kunzman, business manager, DLP HDTV Products, Texas Instruments. Consumers have responded favorably to LED powered DLP TVs since they deliver a brighter and more colorful picture, have an extremely long life and eliminate the use of a light bulb or the need to potentially replace it.
The brightness increases were achieved through optimization of the DLP chip inside HDTVs that controls the light mixing needed to display the brightest image with the largest color spectrum and highest contrast ratio of 500,000 to 1. Additional system changes to the LEDs were accomplished by working in close partnership with the leading LED maker, Luminous. The enhancements will enable wider angle screens to be incorporated by set manufacturers in future models.
Additional DLP technology illumination innovations are being demonstrated by manufacturers during CES, including Mitsubishi s laser DLP HDTV. In early 2007, DLP products was the first mainstream HD technology to introduce LED back lights as a light source for illuminating an HDTV display. DLP technology provides leading HDTV manufacturers the flexibility to choose any light source, whether that is LEDs, light bulbs or even lasers.
