The first is Olive Garden, opening on schedule at 4 p.m. Monday. It will be open only for dinner the first week and then will open for lunch starting on the following Monday.
It might have appeared to be open already as the parking lot has been full for the past few days, but that only reflects the training that's going on.
Part of that training involved making lunch for the Warner Robins Fire Department on Thursday. The lunch was served to about 35 firefighters and administrative personnel at Station 1.
Located on Watson Boulevard in front of Kohl's, the restaurant will seat 246 guests and employ approximately 165 people full- and part-time.
The other restaurant expected to open next week is Bar-B-Cutie, in the building on Watson Boulevard that had been occupied by Backyard Burgers. Owner Danny Strickland, who also owns the Wendy's restaurants on Russell Parkway and Watson Boulevard, said Bar-B-Cutie will open May 17, next Saturday, at 10 a.m.
The restaurant is part of a national chain, but is only the second one in Georgia. The other one is in Acworth. The restaurant's Web site, www.bar-b-cutie.com, describes the food as "quick, quality country cookin'."
The menu includes baby back ribs, beef brisket and mesquite grilled chicken, along with salads and other sides.
MCDONALD'S, PUBLIX PIX COMING TO PERRY
Don't expect to be having a Big Mac meal there any time soon, but a McDonald's is expected to be built at the Publix shopping center under construction in Perry.
Mike Beecham, Perry's director of community development, said that although architectural plans have not been submitted to the city, a McDonald's and a convenience store are expected to be part of the development. The store would be a Publix Pix store, which is operated by Publix. It would also include a car wash.
He said it's likely that neither will open before the Publix opens, which is currently expected in October.
Beecham also reported a new motel is expected to come to an area next to Wal-Mart. Country Inn & Suites has submitted a site plan to the city that calls for a 65-room motel. He estimated that it would likely be September before construction would start.
