The votes are in and the judges have made their decision. Scotiabank today announced that Brian Lamoureux of Windsor, Ontario and the team of Brad Brooks and Cezar Soares of Wallaceburg, Ontario have been selected as the grand prize winners of the Bank's nation-wide 'Build Stanley' contest.
'Build Stanley' was a Scotiabank online competition that challenged hockey fans to build replicas of the Stanley Cup(TM) using ordinary materials, and invited Canadians to vote for their favourite submissions. As grand prize winners, each team of 'Stanley' builders will be recipients of four tickets to a Stanley Cup final game, including airfare, accommodations and $500 spending cash. Each grand prize has an approximate retail value of $13,000.
"We were thrilled by the enthusiastic response to the contest across Canada," said John Doig, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Domestic Personal Banking, Scotiabank. "With a total of 238 homemade cups submitted and over 300,000 online votes cast, our panel of judges had a very difficult task selecting just two grand prize winners. From play dough cups to ice-carved cups and even ten-foot-high cups, Canadians from coast to coast once again confirmed their love of the great sport of hockey and of the Stanley Cup."

Aiming for an exact replica, Wallaceburg co-workers, Brooks and Soares' cup was made from resin, constructed in four hollow sections and then bonded, primed and painted to closely resemble the real Stanley Cup. Lamoureux's cup, carved from the stump of an ash tree, was designed as a permanent monument to salute the spirit of hard work, teamwork, and passion required by NHL teams hoping to win The Stanley Cup. This cup is on permanent display outside Mr. Lamoureux's Windsor residence.
The contest was an extension of Scotiabank's hockey partnerships with the NHL(R), NHLPA, and CBC's Hockey Night In Canada. To enter the contest, Canadians had to post at least one photo and a 200 word story about their work in creating their replica Stanley Cup at www.scotiahockey.com . The 15 top cups, consisting of the ten replicas of the Stanley Cup that received the highest scores by a judging panel and the five replicas of the Stanley Cup that received the most online votes, moved to a final round of judging by a panel of hockey celebrities which included:
<< - Cassie Campbell, former captain of the gold medal-winning Canadian Women's Hockey Team in 2002 and 2006; - Johnny Bower, four-time Stanley Cup(TM) winner and Toronto Maple Leaf Alumni; - Mark Napier, two-time Stanley Cup(TM) winner and Executive Director of the NHL Alumni Association; - Jim Gregory, Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations for the NHL and Chairman of the Hockey Hall of Fame's Selection Committee; and - Vincent Lecavalier, superstar forward and 2004 Stanley Cup Champion from the Tampa Bay Lighting. >>
