PARSIPPANY, NJ, Aug 19, 2008 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) -- CAR | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Few things are more inconvenient to Avis business travelers than getting lost while driving, according to the Company's annual study of travel delays experienced at the customer's destination. But this is a problem that Avis is helping to solve.

Nearly three-fourths (70 percent) of affected travelers consider getting lost to be very or extremely inconvenient, but the good news is that the incidence of Avis business travelers experiencing delays from getting lost while driving has declined by 10 percent compared with 2007 -- reflecting the increasing popularity of where2(R), Avis's Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation device.

"Business travelers who have used where2 to find their way around an unfamiliar city or town swear by it," said Thomas M. Gartland, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Avis Budget Group, parent of Avis. "Travelers with where2 are more productive, safer and more relaxed as a result of having an easy-to-use navigation system."

The study of travel delays also found that one in five renters are experiencing yet another avoidable delay that where2 can help reduce -- getting lost while walking around.

"Anyone who's tried to find a destination on foot in an unfamiliar city knows how easy it can be to lose one's bearings. And safety concerns can sometimes make travelers cautious about asking for directions," Mr. Gartland noted. "Fortunately for Avis customers, this can be avoided thanks to our new slimmer portable where2 units, which can operate on batteries and fit comfortably in a pocket, purse or briefcase. Now, not only can people avoid getting lost while walking, but they can discover points of interest within walking distance of their hotel, to further help them make the most of their business trips."

The new version of where2 features a large, high-brightness display screen, turn-by-turn directions spoken in more than 40 languages and new services such as weather reports, stock and news updates, Amber Alerts and movie listings provided by MSN Direct. Avis's where2 units are manufactured by Garmin, a leader in GPS navigation, and are based on Garmin's nuevi 780 model. where2 also offers real-time traffic alerts in 25 major destinations, which can help the 51 percent of business travelers who describe traffic delays as very or extremely inconvenient.

The study also found that 28 percent more women report "getting lost while driving," compared with men.
