Affirmative Insurance Holdings Leads Monday's AMBG as Global Insurance Index Falls 1.46%

OLDWICK, N.J., Aug 26, 2008 (A. M. Best via COMTEX) -- AIG | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The AMBG closed Monday, Aug. 25 at 1005.12 (-1.46%). Of the 15 A.M. Best stock indexes, one rose and 14 declined. Leading A.M. Best's Global Insurance Composite Index (AMBG) were Affirmative Insurance Holdings Inc. (+4.47%) and First Mercury Financial Corp. (+1.90%). Trailing the list of global insurance stocks were American International Group (-5.49%) and Greenlight Capital Re (-5.16%).

The Asia/Pacific Insurance Index led the sector indexes, with the U.S. Health and HMO Insurance Index trailing the list. In descending order, the A.M. Best Insurance Stock Indexes closed at:

The European Insurance Index (AMBEUR) closed at 1115.45 (-0.48%)%. Leading the AMBEUR were Allianz (+0.50%) and Euler Hermes (+0.50%). Trailing the AMBEUR were Aegon N.V. (-1.76%) and Paris Re Holdings (-1.46%).

The Asia/Pacific Insurance Index (AMBAP) closed at 1225.47 (+0.82%). Leading the AMBAP were Nissay Dowa General Insurance (+1.89%) and Fuji Fire & Marine Insurance (+1.72%). Trailing the AMBAP were Dongbu Insurance Co. (-4.62%) and Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance Co. Ltd. (-2.86%).

The Global Reinsurance Index (AMBGR) closed at 1132.99 (-0.67%). Leading the AMBGR were China Insurance International Holdings (+1.24%) and QBE Insurance Group Ltd. (+0.65%). Trailing the AMBGR were Flagstone Reinsurance Holdings (-2.80%) and Reinsurance Group of America Inc. (-2.53%).

The Global Broker Index (AMBGB) closed at 1127.18 (-1.51%). Leading the AMBGB were Benfield Group (0.00%) and Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group plc (0.00%). Trailing the AMBGB were Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. (-2.10%) and Marsh & McLennan Cos. (-1.70%).

The U.S. Property/Casualty Index (AMBUPC) closed at 1101.59 (-1.10%). Leading the AMBUPC were Affirmative Insurance Holdings Inc. (+4.47%) and First Mercury Financial Corp. (+1.90%). Trailing the AMBUPC were Greenlight Capital Re (-5.16%) and CRM Holdings (-4.20%).

The U.S. Multi-Line Insurance Index (AMBUML) closed at 478.17 (-3.48%). Leading the AMBUML were Atlantic American Corp. (0.00%) and Assurant (-0.96%). Trailing the AMBUML were AIG (-5.49%) and American National Insurance (-3.44%).

The U.S. Life Insurance Index (AMBUL) closed at 1166.09 (-2.48%). Leading the AMBUL were Nationwide Financial Services (-0.41%) and Torchmark (-1.38%). Trailing the AMBUL were Principal Financial Group (-4.75%) and FBL Financial Group (-4.60%).

The U.S. Life and Health/HMO Insurance Index (AMBULH) closed at 1083.45 (-2.95%). Leading the AMBULH were Nationwide Financial Services (-0.41%) and Torchmark (-1.38%). Trailing the AMBULH were Principal Financial Group (-4.75%) and Health Net (-4.74%).

The U.S. Health and HMO Index (AMBUH) closed at 993.80 (-3.53%). Leading the AMBUH were Unum Group (-1.51%) and Universal American (-1.72%). Trailing the AMBUH were Health Net (-4.74%) and Coventry Health Care (-4.66%).

The U.S. Insurance Brokers Index (AMBUB) closed at 1105.85 (-1.58%). Leading the AMBUB were Willis Group Holdings (-1.37%) and Aon (-1.40%). Trailing the AMBUB were Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. (-2.10%) and Marsh & McLennan Cos. (-1.70%).
