LIMA, Oct 04, 2008 (The Lima News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- HUM | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The Senior Living Expo is in its seventh year, and organizers are fortunate to bring in the U.S. Marine Band for the event.

The band, billed as "The President's Own," is an elite group of about 60 musicians. The band was founded in 1798 to provide music for the President at events.

"This is the premiere military band," said Bill Clinger, marketing director at The Lima News. "They are quite unique -- 'the president's own.' They play at all major Washington D.C. functions. ... They do limit their tours, so it's always special when you have a chance to have them come to your community," he said.

The band will be the culmination of the Senior Living Expo, which runs from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday at Veterans Memorial Civic Center. The band will be in concert just after the event, taking the stage at Crouse Performance Hall at 7:30 p.m.

The concert will feature a variety of music, from Sousa marches to Gustav Holst's "A Fugal Overture," Opus 40, No. 1.

"They certainly combine the best of patriotic music with quality classics," Clinger said.

Tickets for the concert are free, but you must mail in a coupon found in The Lima News. A limited number of seats will be available at the door that night.

Earlier that day, the exhibition hall will be filled with booths from local businesses and groups offering recreation opportunities to information.

"What we try to do with the Senior Expo is have talks and workshops that are informative and try to bring in resources for people to try to answer some of the questions that they have," Clinger said.

Putt-putt golf and other games will be available. Each game has an opportunity for a prize, and door prizes will also be awarded.

Food will be available from Old Barn Out Back at an extra charge.

Major sponsors of the event include Humana, Lima Memorial Health System, Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Otterbein Retirement Living Communities and Hughes-Maico.
