CHELMSFORD, Mass., Oct 06, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- MRCY | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Mercury Computer Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: MRCY), a leading provider of embedded, high-performance computing systems and software for complex image, sensor, and signal processing applications, was awarded a contract from a long-standing customer to enable product and technology leverage in its current and next-generation airborne surveillance products, which are focused on the ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) initiatives approved by Defense Secretary Robert Gates in early August 2008.

The contract calls for Mercury to deliver software driver modifications and an optimized application programming interface (API), as well as PMC (PCI mezzanine card) thermal analysis and system integration services, for Mercury's conduction-cooled MYRIAD-4130 VME Host and Carrier Boards and the Mercury multicore software platform. Ideal for data acquisition applications, the MYRIAD-4130 Host and Carrier Boards support low-latency, high-bandwidth data transfers, and the PMC site can accept a variety of PCI mezzanine cards. Mercury's multicore software platform includes fully integrated software tools and libraries for processor-agnostic multicore programming.

For more than 10 years, Mercury has delivered high-performance hardware and software to this customer, a leading provider of ISR solutions used in military and commercial applications. "This long-time customer continues to turn to Mercury for our technical support, design flexibility, comprehensive software environment and software reuse, and system performance," said Brian Hoerl, Vice President of Worldwide Sales for Advanced Computing Solutions at Mercury Computer Systems. "As we continue to focus our technology, products, and service offerings on the ever-growing challenge of data fusion and dissemination, we're pleased to provide a more robust level of service and performance assurance for their airborne surveillance solution."
