AMSTERDAM, Oct 08, 2008 (Reuters via COMTEX) -- BSLDF | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Fortis signs adorning Dutch bank ABN AMRO's headquarters in Amsterdam were removed on Tuesday, just days after the Dutch state nationalised the bank by buying it back from Fortis.

Fortis bought ABN with the Royal Bank of Scotland and Spain's Santander a year ago by paying 70 billion euros ($95 billion) at the top of the market to split it up, but in the past week was itself split up after facing a liquidity shortage and a loss of investor confidence.

Fortis and RBS, which took over ABN's Dutch operations, had removed some of ABN's yellow and green logos and added their own to ABN's grey and silver buildings in the city's south.

The Fortis signs were removed on Tuesday morning, four days after the Dutch state took control of ABN as well as the Dutch assets of Fortis for 16.8 billion euros. That money was paid on Monday.
