Parade of Lights

Nov 17, 2008 (Pauls Valley Daily Democrat - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- ZZFNV | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The planning committee for the "2008 Pauls Valley Parade of Christmas Lights" has been very busy the last few weeks organizing the annual downtown festivity.

According to PV Chamber of Commerce director Della Wilson, the holiday extravaganza is quickly approaching and she is encouraging everyone interested in participating to get their entry forms turned in right away.

"The 2008 Parade of Christmas Lights is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. The theme is 'Holly-Jolly Christmas' and entry fee is one new unwrapped toy for the Angel Tree. We're expecting a record number of needy children this year so we need a good turnout for the parade," Wilson explained.

"Deadline for the entries is almost here. They must be turned in by Monday, Nov. 24, and a copy of the entry form, rules and parade route is available at the Chamber of Commerce located at 112 East Paul," she said.

"If people don't want to drop by the chamber they can get the parade information by e-mail at pvchamber@sbcglobal.net or by faxing us at 405-238-2335."

Wilson said a lot of groups choose to build a float for their parade entry but entries may also include a walking group or a decorated car, pickup, lawn mower, tractor, motorcycle or 4-wheeler -- no dirt bikes please.

Parade entry awards will be presented in several categories this year including the "Herald Angels Award" for the best choir performance, the "Jingle Bell Rockin' Award" for the best band performance and the "Spectacular Sparkles Award" for the outstanding display of lights and illumination.

Additional awards will also be given out such as the "Milk & Cookies Award" for the outstanding entry featuring children, the "O Holy Lights Award" for the outstanding entry illustrating a religious theme and the grand award for the best overall entry -- the "Knock Your Stockings Off Award."
