So far 35 households have asked to be relocated, said Lockheed's Tom Greer.
Lockheed is paying to move them into local hotels that offer extended stay accommodations.
Greer estimated that the dismantling process should be complete by Christmas and then the families can move back into their Tallevast homes.
Other families are expected to request relocation, the spokesman said.
The contaminiation spill has been traced back to a former beryllium plant at 1600 Tallevast Road and is now known to cover more than 200 acres. As the owner of the plant when the contamination was discovered in 2000, Lockheed is responsible for cleaning up the spill.
