* The Chiefs were closing in on a 7-9 season. (What we'd give for that record today.)
* Robert Blake was on trial for murdering his wife.
* Brad Pitt, George Clooney and the cute boys of "Ocean's Twelve" beat Nicolas Cage in "National Treasure" at the box office.
* The jury in the Scott Peterson trial recommended the death penalty for the murder of his wife, Laci Peterson.
* Overland Park City Councilman Carl Gerlach announced his campaign for mayor.
* The Kansas City School District approved Saturday classes for at least 2,000 elementary and high school students. No more Saturday morning cartoons.
