Dec 04, 2008 (DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY DOCUMENTS AND PUBLICATIONS/ContentWorks via COMTEX) -- SBCO | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- AUSTIN, Texas -- Texans who suffered damage or losses as a result of Hurricane Ike and received a loan application from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) have just one week to return their completed applications. Thedeadline for filing the form is Friday, Dec. 12.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) strongly encourages individuals who applied for disaster assistance and received an SBA application to complete the form and return it as soon as possible.

"Texans who do not qualify for SBA loans may be referred to other available disaster aid programs," said Federal Coordinating Officer Stephen M. DeBlasio Sr. "Filing an application doesn't obligate you to accept a loan."

"I urge Texans who were affected by Ike to follow the process so they get the help they qualify for," added State Coordinating Officer Joan Haun.

Applications should be returned before the Dec. 12 deadline. Individuals who require assistance to complete the application can get help from an SBA customer service representative at any Disaster Recovery Center, SBA Disaster LoanOutreach Center, or Business Assistance Center.

For information about SBA programs or to find a location nearby, applicants may call 1-800-659-2955 (TTY 1-800-877-8339), or visit SBA's website at www.sba.gov/services/disasterassistance. Individuals may also contact SBA by email at disastercustomerservice@sba.gov.

Texas disaster victims may file an SBA disaster loan assistance application online. The Electronic Loan Application is accessible via SBA's secure Web site at disasterloan.sba.gov/ela.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
