Non-regular job cuts at its domestic plants in December and January will thus total some 1,100, meaning a reduction of more than 60 percent from about 1,800 jobs at the beginning of this month.
Fuji Heavy now plans to reduce its fiscal 2008 car output by a total of 60,000 units from the originally projected level as a global auto sales slump grows even more serious.
The four Gunma plants for the contract worker reduction are the firm's mainstay plant making minicars, the Yajima plant for larger cars, the Oizumi factory for transmissions and engines, and the Isezaki factory for auto parts.
The 10,000 units for the additional production reduction include 4,000 minicars at the mainstay plant and 6,000 larger cars at the Yajima plant.
