Sprint Nextel stores in Gardendale, Fultondale, Hoover and Pelham were helping collect items for The ARC (Association of Retarded Citizens).
Terri Geer, operations director for USA Digital Sprint Nextel, said there were so many donations that it took several truckloads to get the gifts to their recipients.
"All of our people received presents. Some of them received several," said Martina Beasley, ARC assistant director. "It was outstanding. We were awestruck."
She said there are more than 50 ARC group homes in north Alabama.
Geer said there were several people who played a role in the program's success:
--Kerri Smith, who organized, sorted and made sure things ran smoothly
--Becky Parsons, Samantha Barnes and Lesley Ott from the Gardendale Sprint store
--Gail McCarty from the Fultondale Sprint store
--Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hollis of Gardendale Self Storage for donating a storage unit and allowing late-night access
--Jim & Nick's for providing food for the Christmas party
--Gardendale and surrounding communities who made a difference for 150 men and women.
