BlackBerry Bold is the latest, most powerful and elegant handset of maker, Research in Motion (RIM).
"The [Blackberry] Bold postpaid packages are primarily targeted to mobile executives that value high speed network connection and a handset packed with comprehensive smartphone functions and high-end design," Alberto said.
The PLDT executive said the combination of Smart's high speed 3G/High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) network and BlackBerry Bold's 624-megahertz processor fully support mobile professionals' requirement for multitasking using both voice and data services.
The smartphone will be available to both new and existing Smart postpaid subscribers only by end October. The handset will be bundled free starting at Corporate Plan 2,500.
For individual accounts, the phone will be offered under Smart Gold Plan, P3,500 and Smart Infinity Plan 5000. All postpaid plans will be covered by a 24-month contract period.
The BlackBerry Bold phone supports HSPA network technologies. It is packed with 128 megabytes of flash memory, one gigabyte of onboard memory and equipped with a 624 megahertz Intel processor.
"We're very hopeful to attract more subscribers," Alberto said.
At end-June, Smart had 33.2-million subscribers nationwide.
The PLDT executive said it is interesting to see "wars" of technology between the country's two leading mobile phone providers, referring to Smart and Globe.
In August, Globe offered to its subscribers the revolutionary iPhone 3G on its 3G/HSDPA network.
The iPhone 3G, which operates on Wi-Fi EDGE and 3G networks, is available to Globe's postpaid and prepaid subscribers.
The Ayala-led telecom company said the iPhone is part of Globe's efforts to drive growth in the second half of the year.
