Adalis assisted Bellisio Foods with documentation and completion of its sustainability scorecards in a timely fashion to date. Adalis' packaging engineers helped determine the product volume (PV), selling unit cube utilization (SUCU), and transport packaging cube utilization (TCU) for each of Bellisio's Michelina's branded products sold at Wal-Mart. The PV, SUCU, and TCU are key measures needed to input data into the scorecard, directly affecting the total weighted score. As of February 1, 2008, Wal-Mart will begin using the packaging scorecard within its entire supply chain to measure each company's ability to use less packaging, utilize more effective materials in packaging and source materials more efficiently relative to other suppliers.
"The packaging scorecard is a significant initiative that will ultimately help build a more sustainable supply chain and bring increased accountability to brand owners and suppliers of products to Wal-Mart," said Kalo Amundson, Director of Wal-Mart Operations, Bellisio Foods. "Sustainability is an integral part of our business, and we wanted to take diligent measures to thoroughly understand and comply with the scorecard processes and guidelines. Partnering with Adalis helped ensure that we provided complete and accurate information under an aggressive timeline."
Adalis provides outsourced packaging engineering services and solutions to optimize clients' supply chains through improved packaging development, handling and distribution processes. Combining its global perspective with collective industry experience, Adalis applies its proven, disciplined approach with an emphasis on sustainability in four distinct practice areas, including packaging engineering solutions, value-added technologies, supply-chain optimization and packaging manufacturing optimization.
"The Wal-Mart Packaging Scorecard has initiated major changes in the industry, and companies need to understand how it works and how it will impact their business," said Tom Blanck, Packaging Solutions Manager, Adalis Corp. "The reality is that it's difficult for a company to have the time and resources to calculate and maintain scorecard submissions for each package, in addition to developing strategies for improving scorecard values. Bellisio Foods proactively engaged with Adalis packaging expertise to simplify and streamline implementation of their packaging scorecard. Adalis is pleased to be able to partner with a leading company such as Bellisio Foods and help contribute to their commitment to sustainability and scorecard compliance."
