Stocks are largely flat as of midday on Wednesday, as traders digest yesterday's strong, broad-based rally that saw the Dow industrials climb more than 300 points. Headline stocks of note as of midday include AMBAC Inc. (ABK | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) on the financial end after reporting profit gains from its credit derivatives business, and Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold Inc. (FCX | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) on the materials end.
In the Nasdaq, both Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) and ON Semiconductor (ONNN | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) were up by more than 6% by midday. Investors were particularly heartened by Cisco's earnings outperformance announced this morning.
Big movers to the upside in the stock market as of midday included Caribou Coffee Inc. (CBOU | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating), which announced a new president and CEO, as well as a smaller-than-expected quarterly earnings shortfall. Lower than expected earnings were not regarded as favorably with some of our other big movers to the downside, such Multi Fineline Electronix (MFLX | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) which missed by two cents.
