Stocks were higher across the board on Wednesday, with the Nasdaq up by more than 1% as of midday. Technology shares are among the more impressive movers, with shares of Netapp Inc. (NTAP | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) up more than 6%. Dell (DELL | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating), Microsoft (MSFT | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) and Cisco Systems (CSCO | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) were all up more than 1% midway through trading on Wednesday.
Also producing strong gains in the first half of Wednesday's trading were financial stocks including Lehman Brothers Holdings (LEH | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) which was up more than 7% by midday. And news of a takeover by Japanese office equipment maker Ricoh sent shares of Ikon Office Solutions (IKN | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) soaring by more than 9%.
Among today's biggest midday movers are two familiar names to the upside: The Talbots (TLB | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) and Borders Group (BGP | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating).
