Up or Down? Only One Week Left to Win $1,000!

Heath Baker, an accounting student at the University of Northern Iowa, took home the gold last month, winning $1,000 as our TradingMarkets Up or Down Stock Contest Champion Stock Picker of the month for July.

With one week left in the race for the August prize, and the September competition right around the corner, now is the time to see where you stand in the leader board, or to register for a chance to win September's $1,000 prize.

An Iowan native, Heath first learned about the TradingMarkets Up or Down Stock Contest from an ad on Facebook. Wrote Heath in an e-mail, "I have been interested in the stock market, and thought that this game sounded fun. I figured it was a way to keep a better eye on the market. I never would have dreamed of being a winner!"

Some who have one the TradingMarkets Up or Down Stock Contest have claimed to have made their guesses more or less randomly. Others admit to doing research on the company's fundamentals and the stock's price chart before making their picks. One of the strategies that Heath used was to look at the short term trend of the stock, as well as the short term trend of the Dow Jones over the period. And for the month of July, the results were winning ones.

What is Heath going to do with the money he's won? You guessed it - he's thinking about buying some stocks.
