Stocks ended lower on Monday, with news of Microsoft's decision to withdraw its bid for Yahoo! casting a shadow over the session's trading.

The Dow was down -88.66.  The S&P 500 ended the day down -6.41.  And the Nasdaq Composite was off by -12.86.

Yahoo (YHOO | news | PowerRating | PR Charts ) rallied late in the day to finish down 15% after Microsoft withdrew its bid for the company.

Shares of Sprint (S | news | PowerRating | PR Charts ) rallied on the news that the company was considering selling or spinning off Nextel as an independent entity.
