A frenzy of selling took stocks down sharply on Thursday, with the Dow off by nearly 3%.

The Dow lost 344.65. The Nasdaq Composite finished the day lower by 74.69. And the S&P 500 closed down 38.15.

National Semiconductor (NSM | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) reports earnings Friday morning before the market opens. Analysts are expecting EPS of $0.34.

The machinist's union have agreed to delay a strike against Boeing (BA | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) for 48 hours. Union members have already voted to approve the work stoppage.

Comcast (CMCSA | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) sued the Federal Communications Commission in an effort to reverse the FCC's ruling on how Comcast regulates and controls Internet traffic.

Wal-Mart (WMT | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) announced same stores sales that were better than expected. The stock finished up for the day, but off the intraday highs.

The biggest pullbacks in the Dow industrials came in the form of corrections in financial stocks. Citigroup (C | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) and American International Group (AIG | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) were both down more than 6% intraday.

Microsoft (MSFT | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) announced plans to cut prices on its Xbox 360, making the gaming console the lowest priced among its competitors.
