Stocks moved lower on Friday as a negative jobs report and growing employment made traders and investors reluctant to buy.


The Dow ended the day down 143.28. The Nasdaq lost 45.42. And the S&P 500 closed lower by 19.38.

Alcoa ( AA | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) reports quarterly earnings on Monday after the market closes. Analysts are expecting an EPS loss of ten cents.


In late breaking news on Friday, Morgan Stanley ( MS | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) announced that it would be buying a controlling interest in Citigroup's ( C | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) brokerage unit. Citigroup announced earlier in the day that Robert Rubin was stepping down as special counselor.


The Wall Street Journal reported that Yahoo! ( YHOO | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) was nearing the end of its search to replace outgoing co-founder and CEO, Jerry Yang. Among the candidates is Yahoo! president Susan Decker.


The new entry by Palm ( PALM | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) into the competitive smart phone market cheered traders who boosted shares of both PALM and Sprint Nextel ( S | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) on Friday.
