Stocks sold off for a third consecutive day on Tuesday, with the Nasdaq leading the markets lower.

The Dow ended the day lower by 130.84. The Nasdaq Composite lost 32.62. And the S&P 500 closed down 11.91.

Among the biggest decliners in the Dow industrials was American International Group (AIG | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating), which lost nearly 6% on Tuesday.

Hewlett-Packard (HPQ | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) beat analysts' earning estimates by three cents in its report Tuesday after the markets closed.

A settlement with U.S. prosecutors in a Medicaid fraud case sent shares of WellCare Health Plans (WCG | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) soaring by more than 10%.

BJ's Wholesale (BJ | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) reports earnings Wednesday morning before the bell. Analysts are expecting EPS of $0.57.

Shares of Lehman Brothers Holdings (LEH | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) fell more than 12%, rapidly closing in on the historic, multi-year July lows.
