CONCORD, N.H. -- Two men arrested in Seabrook for passing counterfeit travelers checks have pleaded guilty in federal court, and each faces five years in prison and maximum fines of $250,000.
According to U.S. Attorney John P. Kacavas of the District of New Hampshire, Gary C. Holly-Frazier, 25, and Kevin M. Wells Jr., 23, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., pleaded guilty yesterday in Concord to conspiring to possess and pass counterfeit American Express Travelers Cheques at several stores in Seabrook. After accepting their guilty pleas, the court ordered each man released under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office pending their sentencing hearings. Holly-Frazier is scheduled to be sentenced on April 22, and Wells is scheduled to be sentenced on April 23.
Holly-Frazier and Wells were arrested by the Seabrook Police Department on Sept. 7 after notification from an area merchant. The men were caught in the vicinity of the stores at which counterfeit travelers checks were passed, Kacavas said. Subsequent investigation by the Seabrook Police Department and the U.S. Secret Service revealed that the men possessed or had passed a total of $6,500 in counterfeit travelers checks.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S Attorney Mark S. Zuckerman.
