China Unicom to Expand Femtocell Network in Tianjin Campuses

TIANJIN, Feb 04, 2010 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) --

China Unicom, the sole operator of the WCDMA network in the country, plans to expand the femtocell solutions-based network coverage in school campuses in Tianjin, a municipality in north China, this year as part of an ongoing effort to court for youngsters.

An introduction of the femtocell technology-based solutions into the school campusrd has proved to be a success, said an executive for the China Unicom Tianjin branch, on February 3, noting that the innovative solutions help intensify the coverage of the 3G wireless network and beef up the data services indoors, especially where access are limited or unavailable.

The femtocell-powered network project, kicked off in cooperation with Huawei Technology Co., Ltd. in March 2009, has by far covered more than 2,000 students in the northern Chinese city, with around 100 femtocell Pico adopted. The solutions enable users to get an access to the superior high-speed telecom services like video telephone and wireless Internet.
