Coal giant looms as Macarthur awaits Noble call on Gloucester

Uncertainty will continue until April 2010 on the planned acquisition of Gloucester Coal by fellow Australian group Macarthur Coal. Hong Kong-based Noble Group will then stage a stockholders' vote on whether it should vend its holding of 87.7% of Gloucester into the merger deal, which would lead to the emergence of a $A3.9bn coal mining business.
