SANDY CREEK, Jan 28, 2010 (The News Herald - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --

Three people were arrested Tuesday in connection with a stabbing Saturday in the Sandy Creek area of Bay County.

About 7:30 p.m. that night, the Bay County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from a neighbor of the victim. The neighbor had discovered the victim lying in the front yard of a residence on Raintree Drive in Sandy Creek. The victim, identified as James Selma Johnson, 34, had been stabbed in the chest.

Johnson was "covered in blood," according to an incident report. The responding deputy cut off Johnson's shirt and found a puncture wound on the upper right area of his chest and one between his ring and pinky finger on his left hand.

Johnson said he had met two young men and a young woman the previous day at Walmart and they had given him and his roommate a ride home from the store. The same three individuals had retur ned to the home on Raintree that day. While there with Johnson, one of the men brandished a knife, stabbing Johnson in his chest and hand, according to the report.

Johnson was able to get away and the three suspects left the home.

Investigators identified the suspects as Austin Shaffer, 16, of Friendship Avenue in Panama City; Michael D. Corley, 24, of Evergreen Street in Fountain; and Jamie Victoria Key, 17, of North Lagoon Drive in Panama City Beach, according to a news release.

The three were located Tuesday night at a motel on U.S. Business 98. During questioning, all three said they went to visit the victim with the intention of robbing him and then killing him, the release said. All three were arrested.

Key and Corley were charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery and accessory after the fact to attempted murder. Shaffer was charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery and attempted murder. Key and Shaffer were booked into the Bay County Jail and taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice. Corley also was booked into the jail and faces first appearance today.
