Airbus today announces that it will successively deliver five A380s, the word's biggest aircraft, to China Southern Airlines Co. Ltd. (SEHK: 1055; SHSE: 600029) from 2011.
In particular, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), China Southern Airlines, and Airbus have jointly made a series of preparations for the future operation, maintenance, and fleet management of A380s. The CAAC granted the A380 airworthiness certification to Airbus in December 2009.
Last year, 78 new Airbus planes were delivered to Chinese air carriers, accounting for 16% of the world-known company's total delivery around the globe. Amongst the 78 products, six A320s and five A319s rolled off Airbus' final assembly line in Tianjin Municipality, north China.
Up to 537 Airbus-branded planes had been operational in Mainland China by December 31, 2009, representing 41% of the country's total on-service airplanes with over 100 seats. According to the timetable, Airbus will deliver more than 100 ones to Chinese airways in the entire 2010.
